Mascarin Collision Centre of Thunder Bay takes the environment seriously and implemented a new painting system in their business. "The new service is we have switched our refinish system to a water based paint which is called waterborne technology, an actual water based paint that is used primarily in the collision market. It has been sold in Europe for years where you are using water to thin the paint rather than solvent. The water based system is very good for the environment," noted Gino Mascarin, Manager of Mascarin Collision Centre. " We are 100% water based, the first  facility in NW Ontario and one of 5 in Ontario and 12 in Canada. It is very new in North America. California has already legislated this and by March 2009 everybody in Ontario will have to use this system of water based paint."
" We have been proactive and jumped ahead of the curve and just felt given our people and having been in business in the community for 46 years started by my father Silvio, we should do this. There has been extremely positive feedback. People have come in the office to find out
more about it. We are going to make the community more aware of the service by a  billboard campaign and advertising," noted Mascarin. " It s just a little part of the puzzle. We  have been recycling thousands and thousands of pounds of metal and cubic feet of card board in the
100,000 range per year  as well as other garbage. You needed new equipment and new spray technology to do the new system of painting. Also we sent 3 of our people for 10 days of training  to become one of out of only  30  trained in Canada right now to do this waterborne  technology."
