Dragon Dens Host Diane Buckner Talks to Local Students
Well known television host Diane Buckner gave an interesting talk to several hundred high school students as part of Small Business Week activities. Diane took journalism at Ryerson in Toronto and thought she would like print but worked at City TV as a researcher and loved
the environment. “It was so exciting with pictures, words and everything so I took a job in TV and started off in general reporting. In 1991 I got hired by the television show “Venture” for many years,” said Diane Buckner. “ Dragons Den is now my biggest assignment. We
shoot it all in 6 weeks with 20 1 hour shows. Throughout the year I go in and do narration. In addition I do writing and reporting for CBC News in the business unit throughout the year.”
Buckner is now doing more speaking assignments across Canada with at least 1 or 2 a month because the show, The Dragons Den is very popular. “ Some of the youth here today will listen but it may not be their passion. I doimagine there are a few kids today in which the talk may plant a seed. They saw such great examples of young people here today earlier talking about their businesses,” said Buckner. “ The dragons on our show have amazing life stories coming from nothing. I do think entrepreneurship is in a golden age now. There was a time when it wasn't appealing but the dot com world got more people interested.”
Buckner had a series of her most important things for entrepreneurs such as keep aware of trends, be brief, know your strengths and weaknesses, don't be shy to talk about your strengths, work hard and at the same time not too hard to allow time to be a successful all
around person.
