Technology is playing a huge roll in business today. In fact  small business can also participate to a large extent because of the  lower costs of hardware and rapidly advancing capabilities. The real  question is how to make the machine work the best to solve problems
and run with the fewest amount of problems.

“ We are having a Technology Bootcamp for business executives  to discuss where technology is going in North America and  have  brought in a keynote  speaker and three local users of the  technology. Our division is about offering new technology and  advanced technology solutions so people can compete in the global  market place. We want to be able to demonstrate the new technology  when to use it and how much you should spend,” stated Angela  Domansky Desserre VP of Direct IT for TBaytel. “We offer 4 key  products. Our flagship product is about disaster recovery. It is   very important that your data is secure and safe. We also offer  complimentary services liked hosted email and shared software if you  have branch office. We offer video conferencing for your boardroom or  as a single person across the internet.”
“ Our strategy is around our mobility and broadband services.  Direct IT is a complimentary layer of services. We offer a robust set  of solutions but it can take some time to get all tchnologies. We  have a wide range of people here today who are business oriented from
Thunder Bay.” noted Desserre.
Keynote speaker at the Bootcamp was Mark Scott, President of the  Utility Company located in Kanata near Ottawa. The company has  65  locations including franchises and 200 employees. Scott is  a CA  and  previously worked at KPMG and  in his own firm accounting firm.  “ I  did consulting in the 90s in Ottawa in technology so developed an  interest in the field. I was attracted to what technology could do  for business and am here today to talk about how to leverage  technology, how to reduce costs and scalably drive revenues,” said  Mark Scott. “ At the Utility Company we  deliver technology  as a  service- everything from remote help desks  to desk top manager. We  have the electrical grid for computing which is called the internet.
We invest in technology to get the applications. Why not log in for  your accounting software etc. to a company like us. We partner with  TBaytel.   Many small companies are a bit disillusioned with  technology. We want to deliver it in a more cost effective way with  ongoing support. A Dell computer may cost $600 but  $3000 per year to  keep it running and current.”
What are the five steps to success in business according to mark Scott?
1. A good product or service.
2. A business model to sell and market  in a profitable way.
3. Dynamic people to drive passion through the organization.
4. You need money to run the business.
5. Th 5th dimension is technology.
“ Don Campbell, CEO of Tbaytel  made a great observation in his  remarks. Technology  is about solutions, not as much about hardware  as in the past. Even small business have invested in technology to  become more efficient. 80% of the computer users  today could have a  virtual desk top with less expensive hardware,” said Scott. “ It  is limitless what can be put up in terms of solutions. How to we make  it more efficient, manage our business and grow our revenues. Those  are solutions. Our teenage kids don't care about what is behind Face
book, what makes it work.  They just want the service.”
