The management and staff of Northern Credit Union are very excited about their upcoming move to a brand new 6000 square foot office in the busy West Arthur Street area. The former Roger’s Video free standing building is being completely renovated for Northern Credit Union.
“ We have our head office and roots in Sault Ste Marie and over the years with mergers of smaller credit unions our foot print is now from Arnprior near Ottawa to Thunder Bay. Northern Credit Union has 24 branches locations including two in Thunder Bay,”said Mary Thillman,
Director of Business Development for the Western region of Northern Credit Union. “ We are focussed on members and the community. Our mandate is community, cooperation and caring -  a little different than the normal financial institution.”
Northern Credit Union was previously  the West Fort William Credit Union locally until they merged.  In Thunder Bay they have 2 locations  including one Red River road and the brand new location on Arthur Street. “ It is extremely exciting for all of our staff to move to the
new location. Many of our staff have long term employment with the credit union and are looking forward to the move.  The new location is much more vibrant and has much more traffic, “ said Mary Thilman. “  We offer the full gamut of services. In the coming months we will have
wealth management. We want to reach out and service all the needs of our members. It is a real step forward for us with the new location. We are in your community and here to serve you and build that relationship. The continuity of staff is important. Many of our staff have been here over 20 years.”
Donna Korrall will be the branch manager of the new Arthur Street location. “  It was a long term process to look for a new location. We knew we had a limited life span here on Fredercia Street so when the opportunity came up to move to Arthur street we made the move in under
1 year.  Our client base is from all over Thunder Bay and we want to continue growing. To do that we need to be on a main thoroughfare and be accessible. We will  serve our members better.” said Korrall.
A new addition to the Northern Credit Union is Thunder Bay is Saverio Prete, Commercial Account Manager. “ I started here in July of 2010 after working at another financial institution. The credit union didn’t have commercial lending here very much. My goal is to grow that
book of business,”  said Saverio Prete. “  Northern Credit Union is a great organization with some strong people in Sudbury and Sault Ste Marie. We have unlimited opportunity and I  feel we can easily be number 2 in commercial in the city. We were servicing the commercial
market through Sault Ste Marie before.”
“ What we offer is exceptional service, listening and understanding the needs of the member. It could be a operating LOC, real estate  financing  or so on. We lend to the individual and will deal with all sized corporations. We like to build a more personal relationship and
understand their needs to work with them to grow their business building financial futures together including their personal needs,” said  Saverio Prete. “  The community has really opened their arms to us and we have been gaining clients. It has been well received in the
community.”
The general contractor on the Northern Credit Union project was Tom Jones Corporation which did an interior renovation of the 6000 square foot building on Arthur Street.     “ The architect, John Wong and Associates, and the credit union chose some high end finishes that worked out very well for the space.  They made good use of the space. We started work there in mid December and turned it over April 13th,” said Parker Jones, Project Manager, Tom Jones Corporation. “ We gutted the space, did some plumbing modifications, minor shell upgrade and a full interior fit up. It is one of the nicest spaces of financial institutions in town. We are
extremely pleased with the project. It went very well for us. Casey Bishop and Larry Fukushima from our office were on the project as part of our team and were key to the success of the project.”
“ There is some construction activity in the region and some good projects coming out. We are a sub trade on the court house project for piling and concrete work. Our scope of this work there is very good for the region. We are looking at a strong year.” said Jones.
The new Northern Credit Union on Arthur Street opened on April 13th.
