Exciting New Vehicle Introductions At Badanai Motors

by Scott A. Sumner
On November 3rd the iconic Chevrolet brand turned 100 years old. Recent times have been excellent for the  well known automaker. Chevrolet has sold over 2 million cars so far this year, which is the best year they have ever had.  Many new models in recent years have been very positive for General Motors and two new introductions will certainly continue the progression.

The 2012 Chevrolet Sonic is a brand new vehicle to Canada although prior to coming to Canada it has been sold in over 30 countries around the world. The vehicle is made in Michigan and is a sub compact that has been built to replace the Chevrolet Cobalt and is the same size.

“  General Motors has put a lot of thought into the vehicle to make it a world selling car.  Our interior and exterior styling are now world class. The dashboard was designed off a motorcycle and an expression of the young designers of the vehicle who did it targeting the young people they want to drive it. The first Sonic we have sold locally was to a young lady who really liked the car after doing her homework on the segment,” said George Badanai, President of Badanai
Motors. “ The 5 door hatch especially appeals to the younger audience. It also comes as a 4 door sedan which will appeal to an older demographic.”

The Sonic was launched in Canada last month and comes in expressive colours like bright orange. You can also buy a decal package to customize it to your own personality. “ It is fun, affordable and has good fuel economy at 50 MPG highway. The price range is from $16,000
and up depending on equipment,” said Badanai. “  Today you talk about hybrids but these cars will give you the same mileage as a hybrid for a fraction of the cost. The car is fun to drive and it looks really cool so you feel nice  on the road.”

The next new introduction at Chevrolet was the 2012 Orlando, which has been sold in over 30 countries and will come into Canada as an entry-level crossover sport utility. It has 7 passenger seating, affordable pricing and great fuel economy, which is another great feature.  It also has great looks and interior styling.

“ It is the replacement for the van. A lot of the mothers who used to drive vans wanted a sportier looking vehicle with a crossover ability and that is where the Orlando comes in. It is meant to sell below the $26,000 price point so is a very affordable vehicle that gives you the
maximum amount of transportation for people,” said Badanai. “ We are quite excited about the Orlando and as we get more inventory on ground, people are coming in and looking at it. There is talk of another smaller sport utility vehicle coming in the future as well. We  also do have one new smaller car coming out in the spring called the Chevrolet
Spark.”

The car business had been going very well in Thunder Bay according to Badanai. “ Thunder Bay has been having a good year in auto sales and with the launch of the Chevrolet Cruz we have done very well.  It is the third most popular car in Thunder Bay right now. In Thunder Bay automobile sales we seem to be a market that is very steady. We don’t get the booms but avoid the busts,” said Badanai.  “ We had the demise of pulp and paper and forestry industries here but it has been replaced by mining the last five years. The people from the mining industry show up in the service department at our dealership  and are buying our products which really is quite exciting. If the commodity prices hold, NW Ontario has a very bright future with the embracing of mining.”
